Similar events can be seen in the catastrophic shocks from airline disasters (Kaplanski and Levy, 2010), the September 11, 2001 attacks (Gillen and Lall, 2003), and the impact of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) on airline stocks (Loh, 2006). A recent study documents the impact of COVID-19 on employment in the airline industry (Sobieralski, 2020).
