After reading Chapter 18, think of all the examples of forecasting you experience on a regular basis; such as the weatherman on TV each night. Now, considering the technology we have at our disposal today, why can’t we get a “Perfect” forecast?
The woman suffrage movement actually began in 1848, when a women’s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. For the next 50 years, woman suffrage supporters worked to educate the public about the validity of woman suffrage. In the 20th century leadership of the suffrage movement passed to two organizations.
The first, the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), under the leadership of Carrie Chapman Catt, was a moderate organization. The NAWSA undertook campaigns to enfranchise women in individual states and simultaneously lobbied President Wilson and Congress to pass a woman suffrage Constitutional Amendment. In the 1910s, NAWSA’s membership numbered in the millions.
The second group, the National Woman’s Party (NWP), under the leadership of Alice Paul, was a more militant organization. The NWP undertook radical actions, including picketing the White House, in order to convince Wilson and Congress to pass a woman suffrage amendment.
In this reading, you should focus on the different reform movements and their middle-class supporters. First, think about the underlying assumptions of the Progressive Movement. How did reformers justify expanding the role of the national government to solve social problems? Pay particular attention to the role of female reformers and how their increased public role was explained as an extension of their domestic role.
Airport delays occur because airport capacity is a scarce resource and, airlines are scheduling more flights than that capacity can support. As a result, more and more flights are delayed, even under normal weather conditions, and considerable costs are imposed on the traveling public. Passengers are paying, in effect, a much higher total price than the dollar price of their tickets.
Describe a situation where airport operations are exceeding airport capacity (temporarily or permanently) and causing delay, and then give some proposed solutions. Ensure you back up your solutions with facts and resources.
Your textbook, Film: From Watching to Seeing, makes a distinction between story and plot, stating that story is what happens in a movie, and plot is how it happens. The distinction may seem minor; however, throughout this course, you will be scrutinizing the various aesthetic choices and cinematic techniques that work together to create meaning, develop characters’ motivations, and advance the plot in any movie. With that in mind, you can see that how a film presents action can be very important.
