2. Research problem: The DOD increasingly utilizes physical barriers in screening people who wish to access military installations. Ineffective physical systems can lead to the infiltration of military facilities by unauthorized persons. As a result, this can expose service members and assets to the risk of espionage and possible attack.
3. Significance: Physical barriers prevent the infiltration of military objects to protect assets and service members. However, it is crucial to examine the effectiveness of these physical barriers as external intruders can take advantage of any loopholes to gain access to military installations, putting service members at risk.

The study will help to identify any gaps utilized by infiltrators and terrorists in causing havoc at military facilities. Through such loopholes, the DOD will gain helpful insights for protecting its jurisdiction, property and people.
