Write a two page paper (approximately 3-4 paragraphs). In this exercise, considering the surface narrative of both Wheatley and Rowlandson’s works, also contemplate any subtext present in the context of the culture of oppression and racism in which both women lived. Do you think they considered themselves oppressed or privileged? Did that identity come from within or from outside Western civilization and tradition?
