Research Objectives – the steps you will take to achieve the research aim • These are to be written ideally in bullet points – a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 is ideal. • Ensure that the objectives meet the requirements of the Learning Outcomes highlighted in the module handbook for the dissertation assessment. Research Questions • What would you like to explore regarding your research topic? • What are your curiosities? Research Rationale – why this topic? This may be split in two parts: • Industry Rationale – this is where a lot of statistics, figures and quotes come handy. They will typically be information in the industry/sector relating to your research area. • Personal Rationale – this is where you tell a story that touches you or someone close regarding the research topic (this must be written in the thirdperson-singular – e.g. ‘the Researcher’; ‘the Writer’, e.t.c. Research Hypothesis & Reverse Hypothesis • What is your pre-investigation assumption? • What are your predictions? • What is your expected outcome? • Must be testable • Null, Simple, Complex, Causal, Empirical/Working, Alternative, Statistical, etc Chapter Two: Literature Review– Academic opinions about your research area. • This is where you break your research aim and objectives into smaller subheadings and explore academic opinions on them. • To give this section a critical tone you must seek various academic opinions on each of the sub-headings, which will usually oppose one another. • In practice, you should attempt to use a minimum of two academic opinions in every paragraph. • Ensure that you cover all vital areas that will demonstrate a holistic consideration of your research topic.
