“Social movements in Latin America have contributed to democracy while challenging neoliberalism”. Discuss. Choose either Latin America or Africa in responding to this question: Do you agree that to understand inequality we need to understand the impact of neoliberalism in the region? Assess the extent to which the Post-Washington Consensus helped to overcome the failures of Structural Adjustment Policies and development policy in Africa.

 

1.   Demonstrate an appreciation of the key historical, economic, political and social developments that have led to what is understood as ‘globalisation’.
2.   Recognise globalising elements in the functions of ideology, multinational organisations, states, markets, and culture.

iii.    Link contemporary events and developments in the international and national spheres to the globalisation process, with special reference to Latin America and Africa.
