Identify the major popular misconceptions about Pharisees. Of the three main Jewish sects, the Pharisees are the ones we as evangelicals most talk about and demonize. However, not all sermons or popular writings about the Pharisees are necessarily accurate. Most biblical scholars would argue that Jesus has the most confrontations with the Pharisees, not because their theology was the worst or that they were evil, rather that they were the closest of the three to what Jesus was teaching. Just like today, sibling rivalry can create the deepest confrontations. While Jesus certainly did not condone all that the Pharisees taught, but we must be careful not to overly demonize them.
