think about what your personal cultural heritage is. Sometimes it takes a little effort to identify what it is that we individually connect with as being our own cultural heritage. For some of us, this might be very diverse and include multiple cultures. What we identify as part of our personal culture often reflects our familial lineage, our religion or family practices, our ethnicity, or our nationality.
Part of what you consider your culture may include aspects such as your generational designation (like the “y” or “millennial” generation) or your hobbies (like cos-play or video games), you should be considerate of the term heritage and view this assignment more specifically in terms of what has been passed down to you or provides a historical connection to others in your past and what you will want pass on or preserve for your children.
Part 1: Think about your own cultural heritage.
Determine what your own personal culture heritage is – what you identify with. Talk with your family about this!
Collect a minimum of 3-5 works of art from any time period that form a glimpse of what your personal cultural heritage is.
You will need to include the artist’s name and the title of the work (and date, if known) as well as an embedded link to the original source of your image in your final blog post.
Step 2: Share your work and research.
Create a new post which includes the images you have selected and also explores what you identify with and can see as reflecting some aspect of your personal cultural heritage in (at minimum) three of the works of art.
Write about what you can learn about your personal cultural heritage specifically through these works of art – what are some of the values or topics that are explored? Do you share these views? Connecting with your heritage is very valuable in learning about who you are as a person, who you want to become, and what is important to you.
