In this film, Buñuel is playing a few tricks on the audience; while he really did travel to a rural, remote region of Spain, he also staged many of the more shocking shots. You may notice a plume of smoke before the mountain goat happens to fall from the mountain! Knowing this, do you still trust the narrator/film crew about the other events in the film? Could they, too, be staged or exaggerated? How so?

If Buñuel can so easily fool audiences in his time—and in our time, too— should we be more skeptical towards what modern media conglomerates, political parties, and journalists say? What are some ways we can try to protect ourselves from being manipulated?
