Research and provide an overview of the Cold War context of Cambodia. Generally, in what ways did the Soviet Union through China, and the United States and their allies, influence the political situation and civil war in Cambodia. Why was Cambodia and Southeast Asia at the forefront of the “containment” strategy? 2) Compare the response by Thailand to the “Cambodian Humanitarian Crisis” in 1979, with the response by one of the countries listed below to the current “European Migrant Crisis”. Focus on the different ways that refugees arrive in these places and where they are from, and how the different countries handle incoming refugees. Provide numbers/stats when available. Also, feel free to offer your own thoughts on the subject. Discuss how the sport was played and whether it was played by the nobles or the commoners. b. How did they create the sporting equipment that was used? c. What were the rules to the game? d. What purpose did this sport or game serve for the people? e. Were only men allowed to play or were women able to participate? What about children? f. Do some research and discuss one or two of these sites. Why are they considered sacred? Who had access to them in the past? What role did they play for ancient Hawaiians? How are they being preserved today? 6) Discuss your reaction to the material that has been presented on the Cambodian genocide. Some things you might think about include: a. Were you aware of the Khmer Rouge and the Cambodian genocide or was this new information to you? b. What do you think about the role of the United States and China leading up to, and during, the Khmer Rouge regime? c. How has this information affected you personally? d. Suggest ways in which genocide can be avoided in the future. How should the international community react when hearing news of these kinds of events? How would you want your country to respond?
