Discuss the ways Ada’s piano functions as a kind of language. Read a few shots or a shot sequence through this idea, and extend your reading to the film as a whole. Ultimately, your goal will be to show how your reading sheds light on a theory, a technique, on the nature of the film, or on some general aspect of representation.
Audience: Imagine as your audience someone outside the class: they are familiar with neither the concepts nor the films. To set up your reading, you will, therefore, need to summarize the relevant theory or theories (not entire readings, just the concept you are putting to work), quoting as needed to justify your interpretation of the concepts you are using. And before you discuss the shots you are using, you will need to set up some of the plot–the least amount needed in order for the reader to understand the shot sequence you are focusing on.
