In the case of Julia M. O’Rourke v. City of Providence, sexual harassment issues are illustrated and expectations are defined. O’Rourke became a member of the Providence Fire Department in 1992 and experienced sexual harassment in a variety of forms and for varying reasons. Research this case and write a 3-4 page paper that explains common legal issues that impact emergency services, focusing on sexual harassment. As you have learned, males and females can both be victims of sexual harassment, so place yourself in the position of O’Rourke and explain the sexual harassment that was experienced, why it was unacceptable, and what laws support your stance. Additionally, illustrate how the organization was responsible for this action of sexual harassment and what it must do to prevent further incidents such as this from occurring. Determine who was responsible, how they were responsible, and what must they do to not be held liable.
