You have been provided with a farm description, the required tasks are:
Tasks
1. Examine the description of Owlett’s Farm, including the environmental issues that have been
reported and local sensitivities and features of the area. In particular those related to water quality
issues (the focus of the required management plan).
2. Examine the activities taking place on the farm (incl. the crop nutrition and crop protection
programmes for individual crops) and determine which activities could be contributing to water
quality issues on the farm.
a. Amongst other resources, it is suggested that you make use of:
i. RB209 – volume 4 should contain all the information you need.
ii. The PPDB website – https://sitem.herts.ac.uk/aeru/ppdb/en/.
3. Identify suitable mitigation options which might contribute to this farmer’s aim of reducing the
risk of water pollution resulting from his activities.
4. Formulate these options into a management action plan for the coming year, and explain how
each action will help in reducing water pollution.

Note: There is no prescribed format for this plan, but it should be remembered that you are producing
an action plan for a farmer, not an essay.
Word limit: 2000 words (excluding references and tables)
Note: Drafts will be accepted (it is strongly recommended that you use this service), but must be
sent by email to a.green@herts.ac.uk by 9am on Tuesday the 29th of May 2018.
Note: Although Owlett’s Farm does exist, it will not help you to try and find out where it is or
anything else about the area, as the facts have been amended for the purposes of this assignment.
Nutrient applications
 The fertilisers applied to the different crops should be evaluated in relation to the guidance
provided in volume 4 of RB209.
o The SNS status and P and K indices of the soils prior to growing each crop are
provided for you (as if assessed from soil sampling), so there is no need for you to
try and work this out, just concern yourself with the recommendations tables on
page 23 onwards.
o Be aware of the fact that winter wheat is grown twice, and the recommendations
may not be the same for both times.
 You will also need to consider any other relevant major pieces of legislation.
 You may wish to display your findings in a table, and identify any areas in which the farmer
may be getting his applications wrong, and what the implications might be.
 Although you are mainly to concern yourself with water quality issues, you can support any
recommendations with anything that might encourage the farmer to adopt them (e.g.
economic and/or other environmental benefits). However, do not consider things that have
no water quality implications at all.
Pesticide applications
 Look at the various crop protection chemicals being used on the farm.
 Are any being found in the surface and/or groundwaters of the catchment?
 Are there any others which may be particularly risky in relation to the aquatic environment?
 Are there any alternatives that might be available.
 Useful resources may include:
o The PPDB website – https://sitem.herts.ac.uk/aeru/ppdb/en/.
o Manufacturers’ websites (e.g. Syngenta, BASF, Bayer, etc.).
o Other online resources.
Other
 Consider any other items in the farm description that may have implications for water
quality.
 What could be done on the farm to reduce the risks?
 Display your results in tabular format.

The purpose of a Quality Improvement Plan is to identify what a facility is looking to accomplish when it comes to quality. It allows facilities to try out new approaches and make appropriate suggestions where quality in the organization can be improved. The plan acts as a guide for staff and stakeholders to see what needs to take place for an organization to accomplish where they want to be in terms of quality, and what the necessary steps will be to achieve that goal. For this assignment, you will focus on the first steps of a Quality Improvement Plan and identify an area of improvement in your organization.

Develop a Fishbone Diagram illustrating 1 area of improvement with 3-4 causes (spines of the fish) in your organization you wish to focus on in your Quality Improvement Plan. Collect data from your organization to help you identify the following in your diagram:

Problem statement
Categories in the problem
Contributing factors of the problem and why the factors exist
Identify the deeper causes of the contributing factors, if they exist
Test for the root cause by identifying if contributing factors appear repeatedly, signifying there is a root issue
Write a 1,050-word APA-formatted summary of your Fishbone Diagram. Include your research from the Definition of Quality in Health Care discussion and the questions below to complete your summary.

Explain what your organization’s definition of quality is.
Which of the six dimensions of quality in health care does this definition support?
Explain why each problem you selected is an issue.
Explain why each issue is important to the quality of the organization.

Discuss the implications of the relative cultural dimensions. How might they impact managing the global expansion project?

ou are in the role of project manager for a coffee franchise global expansion project. You plan to expand into three different countries. The magnitude of the project requires you to prepare for the project kickoff meeting and business negotiations with the project team who are potential partners from Mexico, China, and Saudi Arabia. You understand that these cultures are vastly different. They have different business customs, social protocols, and languages, so conducting business with each country requires a customized approach.

To prepare for your first outreach effort with each country, analyze the cultural similarities and differences that exist between the countries and the United States using Geert Hofstede’s Six Cultural Dimensions as discussed in class. Note that the three countries are characterized by collectivism while the United States has an individualist culture.

Create a bar graph and/or table that summarizes the key cultural dimension comparison. Then, compare and contrast each country according to your findings. Discuss the implications of the relative cultural dimensions. How might they impact managing the global expansion project? Remember that you are adapting your approach from a United States centric view. (400-600 words).

This assignment lays the foundation for IP4, where you will apply your findings to forming an effective global team.

Step One:

Visit Geert Hofstede Cultural Dimensions

Step Two:

Create a country comparison using the United States in first dropdown menu box to see the values for the six cultural dimensions. After selecting the United States, a second and a third country can be chosen in the second dropdown menu box. Keep the United States in the first box and then repeat for each country (Mexico, China, and Saudi Arabia) involved in the fast food expansion project to see a comparison of their scores.

Step Three:

Create a bar graph and/or table to highlight how the four countries compare to the United States by using the value scores under the comparison to create the bar chart. How to make a bar chart on Microsoft Word:

Click “Insert” tab
Click “Chart” in the Illustrations Group
Select “Bar”
Click “OK” to insert a chart and a spreadsheet will open alongside your Word document. The spreadsheet contains sample figures surrounded by a blue border. Column “A” contains data labels. The remaining columns contain data.
Click a corner of the border. Drag it down or up to add or remove items from the graph.

Step Four:

Using your findings:

Explain Hofstede’s cultural dimensions.
Using the United States as a basis for comparison, evaluate each country’s similarities and differences relative to the franchise business deployment.
Discuss the implications for your initial communications within each country. For example, what is the impact of collectivism relative to individualism regarding management communication? This should be 400-600 words plus graph/table
