Introduction
Circular economy refers to the alternative to the traditional linear economy commonly known as make, use, dispose of. The adoption of circular economy encourages innovation to ensure that we keep resources used for a long period as possible and with an extraction of the maximum value (Geisendorf & Pietrulla, 2017). The generated materials and products are recovered at the end of every service life. New Zealand is one of the countries that has adopted the use of circular economy. The nation upholds the use of restorative and renewable energy to attain a sustainable alternative to the dominating linear model of ‘take, make, waste’ in the region. The sustainable business network plays a vital role accelerating the adoption of circular economy in New Zealand. This was intended to improve the state of the environment and reduce waste for the attainment of the UN Agenda 2030. Also, the circular economy was created in the attempts of addressing the scarcity of resources and the need for globalization. The transition process from linear to the circular economy in Newzealand has also gained a vital boost from various key partners such as Fuji Xerox, Auckland Council, and 3R Group. The significant change made with the circular economy is only in the maximization of usage of the resources by application of the modern technology and innovation. This ensures the creation of a continuous flow of the materials in the economy as they are reutilized upon reaching their end of life.
The Global Context of the Circular Economy
The World Circular Economy Forum 2017 (WCEF, 2017) held on World Environmental Day attracted various stakeholders from various countries which indicated the commitment to the implementation of the strategies for a sustainable economy. Most of the latest efforts in the conceptualization of the activities integrating the economy and its environment are essential in improving the well-being of the nations. The set of ideas for the circular economy have been adopted by most of the Asian Countries as well as in New Zealand. The primary focus of the WCEF 2017 was to integrate the circular economy and the Global Agenda 2030. The forum addressed the issue of population growth as the leading factors that lead to the need for circular economy. The large population growth rate has resulted in a shortage of the available resources, and hence, it is essential to prolong the useful life of these resources (Preston, 2014).
It was argued that the wealthiest countries use ten times more materials than the poorest countries. This has led to increased resource inefficient that needs to be urgent attention in the realization of the Global Agenda 2030. Material efficiency has been declining globally despite the increased demand. More resources are used to achieve economic growth in the countries’ GDP which has led to a material shortage. In response to these, it is the high time that the countries should consider adoption of the circular economy to improve utilization of the available scarce resources (WCEF, 2017). It also helps in delivering a more competitive economy with better emerging resource security issue for the benefit of the future generation. The circular economy will also ensure reduction of the environmental impacts the manufacturing companies such as pollution. With the increased globalization and collaboration of ideas through international studies as witnessed in the World Circular Economy, Forum 2017 is critical in finding a solution to the material inefficient in the various countries across the world.
Comparison of the Circular Economy in New Zealand and Global Context
Innovation and change have played an essential role in addressing environmental issues in the economy in the attainment of the Global Agenda 2030. The transition to create renewable energy sources is a crucial concept of circular economy in improving the social capital (Geisendorf & Pietrulla, 2017). Fair competition on innovation will also be essential in the attainment of the pure circular economy. Implementation of the circular economy has been done on the pilot system in New Zealand, and it is majorly adopted through recycling and use the renewable energy. However, the adoption of circular energy in the global context has been facing numerous challenges. The main idea behind addressing these issues is by identifying the areas of interest, design the system and mobilizing the innovators and select best options available to offer a solution.
Conclusion
From the above analysis, it is clear that circular economy is the only resolution to the existing scarcity of resources. However, it is the responsibilities of every stakeholder concerned to ensure that these happen successively. Lack of required innovation has been the major challenge in the adoption of circular economy in today’s economy. Proper incentives should be offered to the solvers and the industrial players to provide a long-term solution and establishment of significant economic impact. New Zealand is one of the countries that has been recently embracing mobilization of capital for implementation of the circular economy. Innovators are provided with both financial and nonfinancial incentives to encourage them in providing a solution to the persistent linear economy material shortage as well as environmental pollution. Various partnerships have also been launched with the top leading companies to ensure integration of the circular economy and the Global Agenda 2030.
ONLY interviews over the phone or skype with NGOs currently present and working on the field in Kerala in trying to solve the water issue. The interviews will be un-structured form which means that the questions asked will lead us to a broad amount of useful information. (You can use google scholar under the name NARRATIVE INTERVIEWING for a deeper meaning of this form of interviews and questions, un-structured ).
(Keeping in mind that this whole dissertation will rely only on interviews conducted by myself over the phone and skype as a source of data collection)
2. Analysis
This section is a step by step in extreme detail explanation in form of instructions of how the results or info gathered of the interviews will be analysed. A choice of either discourse, thematic, OR content analysis has to be chosen (ONLY ONE). There has to be also a justification as to why that particular type of analysis was chosen for this particular approach.
