We will examine how prominent images can influence our perception and how we define addiction as well as how such images can reinforce myths and influence ones’ sense of self. We will explore how images and common stereotypes define addiction – not only in our minds, but also in the larger, collective view? Consciousness of societies and cultures.

First, conduct an internet search for images of addiction (using Google or any other search engine available to you) and if you have not do so, read the module lectures. In your initial post address the following:

Identify and describe (remembering to give credit to images/sources) some of the more common images you found in your search. You can choose to include the images, or just provide descriptions of what you found.
Indicate how these images contribute to stereotypes and myths about what defines addiction.
How do you think these common images and stereotypes affect people with addiction (emotionally, psychologically, socially, culturally, etc.)? How do they influence the ways addiction and addicted individuals are perceived by others?
How do the images confirm stereotypes and myths about addiction and addicted individuals? How might they impact a person’s willingness to seek help and manage recovery?
How might they shape an individual’s attitudes and behaviors? (Refer to lecture 3)
After submitting your first main post, read several posts of fellow classmates, then respond to the main posts of at least two (2) other students regarding their main post about images.
