Using the CSU Online Library, locate two articles, one discussing structuralism and one discussing functionalism. Compare and contrast what you learned from the textbook with the information you found in your chosen articles. For example, does finding an analysis from a functional perspective make the concept clearer to you? Does reading more about Titchener’s background convince you that structuralism is a more solid methodology?
Compare and contrast modern conservative, modern liberal and socialist/social democratic views on how capitalist society today can or cannot provide the best possible outcome for the majority of people living within the system. Does socialism provide a viable alternative? Specifically, you should compare the views of the socialist theorists, modern liberals, and modern conservatives (including neoliberals or “economic conservatives” in the U.S.). What do writers on the left and right prescribe for the future of capitalism? How do modern liberals weigh in on the best approach to the “good society”? How do these thinkers idealize the future or even delude themselves (if you think they do)? Whose views make more sense to you and why?
