The Mother of an acutely ill child is extremely upset about her child’s condition. She is unable to focus on the details of the treatment and cannot stop crying. She has been a patient at your office for 10 years and the news of her child’s illness has been hard on her and her family. However today when she came in, she was visibly upset, and states that she can’t eat or sleep, and not sure she will get thru this. Demonstrate how you would manage this situation.
Situation #2
There are reports of a shooting at a mall close to where you work. One of your staff members become extremely upset because her sister works at the mall. She comes to you and says, “I have texted my sister and she has not answered.” She falls to the floor screaming and crying and wants to leave immediately to check on her sister. There are patients in the office, and the physician decides to continue providing care to the patients who are present. Demonstrate how you would manage this situation.
