Write an essay about the challenges which the nation and its predecessor colonies faced starting with the first European colonization to end of the Revolutionary War. Describe how a fledgling federal government stood up against states and others who defied its authority. Feel free to compare the American Revolution to the French Revolution and the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. You may want to mention things such as the plight of African-Americans and Native Americans, struggles between certain groups of states, the challenge of expanding the right to vote and bringing the common man into a political system dominated by the mercantile elites.
